I've even noticed some of the big touring bikes are including vents of one kind or another in their fairings. Letting some air through is apparently a good thing to some people. Like others have said, though, I'm not certain it is "supposed" to be flush anyway. It really does look great at the other end of its adjustment, but whether that works for a particular rider or not is another thing. It was my first day out and I was just going to test it across its range. I should have taken the pics with it in a better position. With it all the way forward it looks much better-the two mate up about as well as you could want." In this position the cutout for the headlight and the headlight itself have a sizeable gap between them. It's kind of sad, though, because I really do prefer the look of just a motorcycle.Ĭlick to expand. From the original post: "Keep in mind, in the pics I have it tilted all the way back. I'll get a quick-detach one for those times I want to cruise the streets. I guess if I lived in a huge city and only needed to go fast for short bursts.maybe I would like to have a big muscle cruiser, standard, naked, or streetfighter.but around here, looks like it is going to be something with a nice screen for me from here on out. It's a necessary evil, but if you look long enough it can be done RIGHT.Īll it took was a few rides without a screen at 65 to 75 MPH for me to realize I will probably never, as long as I only have one bike, go without a screen. I'm still not sold on ALL that, but I do definitely understand the screen now. I would kind of laugh at the hulking cruisers with their giant screen, luggage, sound grief, get a car, people. I was just certain that a street bike was the way to go for me (hence the Phantom). I felt (and still do to a certain extent) that they ruin the look of a bike, especially the huge ones. Until I actually got some seat time on a bike, I was one of those people who thought they would never use a screen. I had some other comments, not really about this specific screen, though. Oh, the pics are at the TVA Melton Hill Reservoir in Tennessee. I felt like I could actually pass someone at that speed, where before it seemed like it would take a full minute to get up to 80.Ĭheck out the pics and let me know if you want more info. It may all be in my head, but I could swear that the shield really improves performance above 70 MPH, too. Unfortunately I was too lazy to stop and tilt it forward, but I hope that that will fix that problem. I had it tilted all the way back as stated above, and I must admit that the head buffeting was kinda bad. It totally removes the pressure on your chest but not your arms. I don't intend to ride this fast, but today I was doing 90 no problem. I didn't even want to ride this thing over about 65 MPH before.just was not fun, felt like I was hanging on for dear life. This is my first screen ever so keep that in mind, but I was totally shocked at how much better this is. Performance: I rode about 200 miles today. With it all the way forward it looks much better-the two mate up about as well as you could want. (One note: Keep in mind, in the pics I have it tilted all the way back. The gradient black and black hardware are perfect and blend right in with the Phantom look. This is all subjective, but I wanted something that did not ruin the look of the bike, something that looked like it was basically made by Honda just for THIS bike. That's a great convenience on this style bike.įit / Appearance: Looks good to me. It was too close to one of the bolts to get the ratchet in there.Īnd once it is installed, you can put on / take off in less than 30 seconds, depending on your needs. The only deviation from the simple, included instructions (available online) was that I needed to remove the bracket that routes the brake cable, but that was no problem. They include the necessary hex keys, but you already have one of them in your Honda kit. I guess it could be done with wrenches, maybe. You will need a 1/4 drive socket set with 8, 10, and 13mm (IIRC), and I think the smaller the head on your ratchet the better. If they are going to charge $140 for a bracket, it should be all metal, IMHO. The only gripe I have is that part of the trigger lock mechanism is plastic. I thought the brackets could stand to be thicker metal, but once they are bolted together they are fine. Quality: The screen and the bracket seem to be excellent quality. Parts: Memphis Shades, black bracket 2321-0279, gradient black screen 2313-0088, around $240 online So I looked at a lot of windscreens and decided on this one.
